A U.S. green card

The Department of State’s National Visa Center (NVC) saw a decrease in the green card backlog, from 351,624 in April to 337,307 in May — a 4% drop.

The number of green card applicants whose cases were documentarily complete and ready to be scheduled for an interview decreased, from 404,459 in April to 387,068 (a 4% decrease). A case that is considered “documentarily complete” is a case in which all the required forms and documents have been submitted and accepted by the NVC, and therefore the case is ready for interview scheduling.

The number of people scheduled for a green card interview also dropped — 49,761 in May compared to 52,835 in April (a 6% decrease).
