U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is warning applicants that outdated versions of immigration applications, many updated April 1, 2024, will be rejected. This comes just one month after the expiration of a grace period for using older editions.

Article at a glance

  • New Editions: Most USCIS forms were updated on April 1, 2024.
  • Grace Period Ended: While older forms were accepted for a period, that grace period ended on June 3, 2024.
  • Check Edition Dates: Verify the edition date on the form you are using. It is listed at the bottom of each page and on the form’s webpage.
  • Use Consistent Editions: Ensure all pages of your application are from the same edition to avoid rejection.

Recent Form Updates and Expired Grace Period

On April 1, 2024, USCIS published new editions for most of its forms. To ease the transition, the agency initially allowed a grace period during which both old and new versions were accepted. This grace period, however, ended on June 3, 2024. During this time, USCIS accepted both previous and new editions of certain forms, provided they were filed with the correct fee.

Current Requirements

As of now, USCIS will no longer accept prior editions of forms. This strict policy has raised concerns that some applicants might still be using outdated versions, potentially leading to rejected applications.

How to Verify the Current Edition

To ensure you’re using the correct form, USCIS advises checking the edition date in two ways:

  1. Look for the Edition Date section listed on each form’s webpage.
  2. Check the bottom of the page on the form and instructions.

Important:

All pages of each form you submit must be from the same form edition. USCIS may reject your form if any pages are from a different edition
