The Carnegie Corporation of New York recently unveiled its 2024 Great Immigrants list, paying tribute to remarkable individuals who have made noteworthy contributions in their respective fields.
Peabody award-winning screenwriter and comedian Mohammed Amer, Nobel Prize laureate Maria Ressa, immigrant advocate Homa Naficy, and Emmy winner Steven Yeun made the list, which honored 24 noteworthy naturalized American citizens.
āThe 24 Americans honored today serve as a reminder of the economic and societal benefits that each new generation of immigrants brings to our country and the richness of talent, skills, and achievements they contribute to our democracy,ā said Dame Louise Richardson, president of Carnegie Corporation of New York and a naturalized U.S. citizen herself, in a statement. āIn honor of our founder, Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish immigrant, we celebrate these extraordinary individuals who have made notable contributions to American society.ā
The immigrants on this yearās list hail from 16 countries and are trailblazers in various fields, including the arts, education, business, health, journalism, and public service.
Since 2006, the foundation has honored more than 740 remarkable immigrants.
